Young plants grow leaves in opposing pairs and only start alternating once they are old enough to flower, which is a useful readiness signal before flipping. Switching lights on a plant still growing symmetrically usually means a slow, uneven transition. Notes on reading vegetative maturity are explained at https://breederregularseeds.com. Autoflowering plants ignore this entirely, which is one of several reasons they sit outside normal breeding workflows.
