So I finally took the plunge and started my own little seafood distribution business here in Dubai after working for someone else for nearly a decade, and honestly I’m both excited and completely overwhelmed by all the little details I never had to think about before. I’ve got my suppliers lined up, my transport sorted, and a small cold room rented out near the wholesale market, but I’m realizing I might have underestimated how important the choice of containers really is for keeping everything fresh and presentable. I spent a good chunk of last night reading up on storage practices UAE seafood distribution businesses follow, and it gave me a solid foundation but I still have so many questions about the practical day to day stuff. One thing that’s been on my mind is whether I should go for new or second hand plastic storage crates for fresh fish distribution, since I’m trying to keep my startup costs reasonable but I also don’t want to end up with something that’s going to fall apart or contaminate my product. I’ve seen a few listings online for used ones that seem like a good deal, but I’m worried about hidden damage or lingering smells that might affect the quality of my catch. What do you guys think, is it worth spending the extra money on brand new ones or can you actually find decent used options if you know what to look for?
