Bentley decided to die in my underground parking and the battery is buried somewhere in the trunk
So I went down this morning to take the Continental out for a spin for the first time in about three weeks and of course the key fob did nothing the car was completely dead silent like a very expensive paperweight and I had to crawl through the back seat to manually release the trunk because that’s where they decided to hide the battery on these things which is just brilliant engineering when the car has no power to pop the latch electronically and I’m standing there in the parking garage sweating through my shirt trying to figure out if I need a specific AGM battery or if any shop can handle this without messing up the complex electrical system that throws a tantrum if you disconnect it wrong. I called the dealer just to get a ballpark and the number they gave me made me laugh out loud in a sort of hysterical way because it’s just a battery not a engine rebuild but apparently on these cars even the battery has a little control module attached to it that needs to be coded or registered or something equally unnecessary and they made it sound like if I let anyone else touch it the car would spontaneously combust. Anyway a friend of mine with a Flying Spur said he used a place that specializes in Bentley car battery replacement Abu Dhabi and they came to his house and did the whole thing including the registration procedure for way less than the dealer wanted and the car hasn’t caught fire or lost its memory settings so I’m probably just going to do that instead of overthinking it because I’d rather not have a four thousand dirham paperweight sitting in my parking spot for another three weeks while I argue with myself about whether I really need the official stamp. Anyone else had their Bentley battery die and gone the independent route or am I being reckless by not just paying the dealer tax for peace of mind?
