Brakes on my Grand Cherokee feel spongy – do I need pads or a full fluid flush?
I’ve been noticing over the past week or so that the brake pedal on my 2018 Grand Cherokee has started to feel a bit soft and mushy, like I have to push it further down than usual to get the same stopping power, and it’s honestly making me a bit nervous because I do a fair bit of highway driving with the family in the car. I took a quick look at the brake pads through the wheel spokes and they seem to have some life left in them – maybe 40-50% from what I can tell – so I’m wondering if the real issue might be moisture in the brake fluid or air bubbles in the lines rather than worn pads. I’ve read that brake fluid absorbs moisture over time and that can cause a spongy pedal feel, especially in humid climates, and I can’t remember the last time the system was flushed because I bought the car used about 18 months ago. The thing is, I don’t want to go into a shop and have them just slap new pads on without addressing the underlying issue, because that feels like throwing money at a symptom rather than the root cause. I’ve also noticed that the brakes seem to grab a bit unevenly sometimes, like the left front is doing more work than the right, which could be a caliper issue or just uneven pad wear from a stuck slide pin. I’m based in Abu Dhabi and I’ve been meaning to find a reliable shop that actually knows these Jeeps, maybe somewhere that offers Professional Jeep Brake Pad Service in Abu Dhabi so I can get a proper diagnosis rather than just a quick visual inspection. Has anyone here experienced similar brake issues with their Grand Cherokee and found that a simple fluid flush fixed everything, or did it turn out to be something more serious like a failing master cylinder or ABS pump? I’m trying to figure out if I should just take it in ASAP or if I can wait a bit longer, but I don’t want to compromise safety just to save a few dirhams on a diagnostic fee.
